1. Choose where to investigate first
Start with sites whose patterns have changed or differ from comparable buildings. Consider opening hours, building use and data quality before ranking a site as inefficient. A large bill alone does not establish avoidable waste.

2. Prepare a useful meter-data export
Keep the original readings and link each meter to a site. Include units, reading intervals and timestamps where available. Flag missing periods or meter changes rather than replacing gaps with zero consumption.
3. Review whether an action made a difference
Record when a change was implemented and compare consumption before and after. Review weather, opening hours, occupancy and other changes that might explain the difference. A lower bill can reflect tariff changes rather than lower consumption.
Report identified potential, implemented actions and measured outcomes separately. Keep the assumptions visible so colleagues can assess the result.
